OTTAWA, CANADA & SUNNYVALE, CA — April 22,2002 — Atsana Semiconductor Corp., a leader in the development of power-efficient, programmable processors for multimedia wireless devices, and OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OVTI), a market-leading independent supplier of CameraChip™ solutions for high-volume imaging applications, today announced they are jointly developing a mobile multimedia reference design to improve the performance of mobile video and imaging devices such as wireless cameras and video-enabled wireless phones.
OMNIVISION’s CMOS video sensor will be integrated with Atsana’s programmable media processor on a reference platform designed to enhance the performance of wireless-enabled cameras and multimedia phones. The reference design is currently in a prototype stage and uses an FPGA version of the Atsana media processor. The Atsana FPGA media processor supports MPEG-4 at QCIF (176×144) resolution and JPEG at VGA (640×480) resolution.
“OMNIVISION has a strong focus on the wireless technologies and is dedicated to producing solutions that meet the technical demands of this market,” said John Lynch, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at OMNIVISION. “Our efforts with Atsana are intended to optimize the inter-operation of the CameraChip™ and the media processor to provide low power, high performance cost effective video solutions.”
The mobile multimedia camera module reference design is currently fully programmable, meaning it can be programmed to support a variety of video processing algorithms. This includes supporting the current video compression standards such as MPEG-4 and JPEG as well as emerging standards such as H.26L. Additionally, the module can be programmed with special algorithms such as image pre-processing and image stabilization.
“We are excited to be collaborating with OMNIVISION, a leader in camera chip technology, to offer an integrated mobile multimedia camera module reference design that supports a small form factor, low power consumption and full programmability,” said Michael Krause, Chief Operating Officer of Atsana. “Atsana’s media processor, based on a massively-parallel processing architecture, provides consumers with greater access to a broad range of emerging video and imaging wireless applications.”
A final reference design is targeted to be available by the fourth quarter of 2002. For more information, please contact OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc. at www.ovt.com or by calling 408-733-3030, or Atsana Semiconductor Corp. at www.atsana.com or by calling 613-224-9926.
