OMNIVISION Debuts OV9755 Sensor with Large 3.75-Micron Pixel, Providing Excellent Low-Light Sensitivity Even At Minimal Power Levels
Apr 06, 2016

LAS VEGAS — APRIL 6, 2016 — OMNIVISION Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced from ISC West a new high definition (HD) image sensor for mainstream security, smart home, and IP cameras. The power-efficient OV9755 CameraChip™ sensor leverages OMNIVISION’s 3.75-micron OmniPixel®3-HS pixel architecture and improved image processing to capture high quality 720p HD images and video, even when recording in low-light conditions.

“According to a recent industry report, the global smart camera market for security and surveillance applications is expected to grow from $1.93 billion today to $3.06 billion by 2020, with CMOS sensorbased cameras leading the growth1 ,” said Chris Yiu, senior marketing manager at OMNIVISION. “We are seeing increasing demand for high performance, streaming-enabled imaging solutions that deliver exceptional images and video in all lighting environments. The OV9755 is designed to meet these expectations while requiring minimal power for operation, making it an ideal camera solution for batterypowered IP or security camera applications.”

Built on proven OmniPixel®3-HS technology, the OV9755’s larger 3.75-micron pixel enables best-in-class low-light performance at 43Ke-/lux-sec and less than 0.2 lux SNR1 (the luminance value for a signal to noise ratio of 1:1).

The sensor can record crisp and clear 720p HD video at 60 frames per second (FPS), or VGA resolution video at 90 FPS in a wide range of lighting conditions. Additionally, the 1/3-inch sensor supports a “system wake-up trigger” and low-power mode, which allows the camera to begin operation while consuming minimal power (approximately 100 mW).

1 Markets and Markets: “Smart Camera Market for Security & Surveillance by Application (Public Spaces, Commercial Facilities, Residential Infrastructure), Sensor Technology, Scanning Technology, and Region (Americas, Europe, APAC) – Global Forecast to 2020”, February 2016 The OV9755 is currently in volume production.
